Stuart Brady, Labour’s candidate to be Loughborough’s next MP said “our town centre is showing the impacts of cuts and a local economy that has reduced the pounds in people’s pockets.  Over nine years of Conservative government that has got worse not better.”
“The timing of this announcement before a likely election is seriously suspect.  Local Tory leader Jonathan Morgan said that this meant £25 million for Loughborough.  That is just spin.  There is no money actually allocated to Loughborough we just have the right to apply for it.  The amount of money across the country for 2020/2021 amounts to less than 10% of the headline figure.  People are wise to this kind of electioneering.”
“Labour has concrete plans for regional development banks that will invest in businesses to rejuvenate the high street.  We will also reform the rates system to stop punishing shop-owners.  Also, by getting rid of zero-hours contracts and introducing a £10 minimum wage we will also ensure shoppers have money in their pockets.”
