In response to the announcement that Shelthorpe Children’s Centre will stay open but that Shepshed and Cobden would lose their centres, Stuart Brady, Labour’s Candidate for the Loughborough Constituency at the next general election said:
“Given that we have campaigned hard to keep the centres open we are pleased that the Council has in part headed the concerns of us and the thousands of petition signatories by keeping Shelthorpe’s valuable Sure Start Centre open.  The fact that Cobden will close will be a real blow for early intervention and family support in the Hastings area.”
“It is, however, sad that Shepshed’s centre is to not to form part of the programme.  Yet again, it seems like the families of Shepshed are getting a raw deal from our local councils.”
“These losses are yet another way that government cuts are undermining the communities and the future generations of Loughborough and Shepshed.”
